Hockey Tours to Italy

  • School Hockey Tours to Italy

Put your team's competitive skills to the test with a school hockey tour to Italy or further afield to take on local opposition. We will match your hockey team with host teams at a similar skill level, the local excursions are another key part of the programme. Milan is always popular as you can take a tour of the San Siro Stadium, and then explore the fashionable epicentre of all things chic in La Galleria and the piazza outside Il Duomo: Verona and its inspirational amphitheatre and Shakespearean links including Juliet’s Balcony. The beautiful lakeside towns of Peschiera and Sirmione; Gardaland which we are reliably informed is the 8th most popular theme park in Europe and of course there is Venice...

Day 1
On arrival at your destination airport you will be greeted by CU representative and escorted to the coach for the transfer to Lake Garda. The lake is the largest in Italy, located in the North of the country situated between Venice and Milan. The Centro Turistico is a large modern 3* hotel complex set in its own impressive grounds on a hill near Verona. Meals are buffet style so there is always a wide selection of dishes and some favourites which will appeal to everyone. Your CU representative will assist you with check in to ensure it runs smoothly. As with all areas of the CU programme, evening entertainments will be carefully planned for your group in one of the function rooms available.

Day 2

Each day will start with a buffet breakfast before your activities begin. Training will be done in the morning and one of the great things about touring Italy is that they excel in so many different sports so their facilities are superb and just a short distance away. A couple of our main training venues are at the nearby Paradiso hotel and in the town of Bussolengo. Fixtures are usually played during the late afternoon or evening with local club teams and you will be escorted to your fixtures by a local activ4 representative to ensure things run smoothly. After the first fixtures many groups like to round off the evening with a visit to Sirmione Amusement Arcade where you can enjoy the many activities on offer including the video games!

Day 3

Today will be spent in one of the most exciting cities in Europe, Milan. You will visit the impressive San Siro Stadium home to both AC and Inter Milan for a stadium tour. Your tour takes you to the grandstand which offers an excellent view of the pitch and stadium. You will visit the VIP stands, the hospitality areas, the interview room as well as the players’ changing rooms. With so many fantastic photo opportunities make sure you have your camera at the ready! Complete your tour with a visit to the museum and stadium shop. No visit to Milan would be complete without setting aside time for shopping in the ‘fashion capital’. Visit ‘La Galleria’ shopping area where you will be sure to find a treat or two!

Day 4

This morning you will head to Malcesine where you will get the cable car that will take you up Monte Baldo, reaching an altitude of 1760m in just ten minutes. The cabin slowly rotates offering a 360°view and the sensation of flying. On a clear day you can see the whole of the lake, from Riva to Peschiera del Garda: a breathtaking panorama! You will then head to one of the lakeside towns such as Bardolino. You could opt to have a traditional Italian pizza in this beautiful town. It’s a great place to have walk along the lake with an ice cream.

Day 5

Back to sport this morning with training where you can focus on developing and improving the techniques from your fixtures earlier on in the tour. By now, the students will have acclimatised to their surroundings and be keen to put in a good performance later on in the day. Prior to departure your tour manager will have discussed the format and standard of opposition required in order to get the most out of your tour fixtures.

Day 6

Spend today in one of the most unusual cities in the world, the wonderful city of Venice. The city and the lagoon are listed as a world heritage site. You will start by taking the 30 minute crossing by Water taxi and then over the bridge to St Mark’s Cathedral which will be your meeting point throughout the day at St Mark’s Square. The ‘Basilica di San Marco’ is a beautiful cathedral dating back to 828 and worth a visit, as is the Rialtro bridge which has been built, fallen and rebuilt several times until it’s completion in 1591! There is also the bridge of sighs that connected the Doge’s Palace to the new prison and the enclosed bridge is said to have muffled the cries of the prisoners! You will enjoy some shopping time where you can pick up a traditional Venetian mask and enjoy an Italian coffee in one of the many cafes. You may opt to finish your day in Venice with a ride on a traditional Gondola cruising along the Venetian canals.

Day 7

This morning you will head to Verona; a Roman city which has many historic places of interest including the Verona Amphitheatre which dates back to AD30, as well as Juliet’s famous balcony. Visit Piazza delle Erbe which is great for shopping and gelato. You will then visit one of the many beautiful lakeside towns such as Lazise. With its Castle and fortified walls Lazise is the perfect place for groups as it is almost completely pedestrianized. On the final night it has become a tradition for touring teams to hold an awards ceremony to decide on the player of the tour, most goals etc.
