On arrival at UK you will be greeted by our representative and escorted to your coach for the transfer to Shropshire. You will be staying in Shrewsbury, a great location for accessing the many beautiful sights and attractions of Shropshire. As with all areas of our programmes, evening entertainments will be carefully planned for your group and you can round off your first day with a quiz night.
Start each morning with a filling breakfast before setting off for your days’ activities. This morning you will hop over the border into Wales where you will visit the historic village of Portmeirion. This unique village is set on its own private peninsula on the southern shores of Snowdonia. It was created by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis (1883-1978) to demonstrate how a naturally beautiful place could be developed without spoiling it. Portmeirion is made up of about 50 buildings most of which are used as hotel or self-catering accommodation and surrounded by 70 acres of sub-tropical woodland gardens. The village has many cafes and restaurants where you can stop for an ice cream or cream tea. You will then head back into England where you will enjoy an evening dinner.
This morning you will visit a local primary school. This is a great opportunity to take part in an English classroom and interact with students of the same age. You will then head to Blists Hill Victorian Town.
Experience life as it was over 100 years ago through the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of a recreated Victorian Town. Victorian characters will give you a fascinating insight into Victorian life as they go about their daily lives in their cottages, shops and places of work. Exchange your money at the Bank into pounds, shillings and pence, try some of their traditionally cooked fish and chips, or delicious bread from the bakery. Find out about curious remedies in the Victorian Pharmacy and browse the unusual products for sale in the Grocers and the General Drapers and Outfitter. You can choose from a range of ‘old favourites’ in the sweetshop and have fun at the Victorian Fairground. You can also dress up in Victorian costume to have an unforgettable portrait taken at the photographers. Meet the animals and enjoy a journey around the town on a horse and cart. Witness traditional skills in action at the printers, candle makers and decorative plasterers. A truly unforgettable visit!
This morning you will have your second visit to a local primary school. Your school could share ideas, play games and have fun together. A great cultural exchange! You will then head to the Enginuity science museum. Investigate science and discover more about the power of technology at Enginuity.
Discover how a little ingenuity will empower you to pull a 10 ton locomotive by hand or generate electricity from flowing water. Look at familiar objects with new eyes using the giant x-ray machine. Build an earthquake proof tower. Challenge our robotic arm to test the speed of your reactions. Sketch out your own ideas in the design zone. You will then head for an early dinner at the nearby South Water complex before an afternoon of ice skating!
This morning you will step back in time with a ride on the Severn Valley railway line. A wonderful way to spend a day - The Severn Valley Railway operates mainly steam-hauled passenger trains between Bridgnorth, Bewdley and Kidderminster, a journey of about 16 miles, along the beautiful Severn Valley. There is no better way to see the beauty of the River Severn than from one of these steam-hauled trains. This afternoon you will then heads to Waterworld. The park has a series of fantastic rides as well as a host of other attractions including Nucleus: The country's first indoor roller coaster, 375 feet of ups and downs. Space Bowl: Slide along the flume ride and plunge through the space Bowl, or take a short flume ride that sends strong swimmers spinning into the Space Bowl where your world is turned upside down before you plunge into the deep blue water below. Python: Slide feet first and out of control along the twists and turns. Twister: A mind blowing flume, faster, steeper and with more twists and turns than you can imagine. Aqua Splash Jungle House: Dare you splash through waterfalls, swing across mini assault rope climbs, tackle the scramble net, dodge the monsoon monster splash, trigger the five water cannons or edge across the rope bridge. Try and escape using the 2 flumes! Also available is the Black Hole, Super Flume, Rapids, Multi-Slide, Typhoon Lagoon, Assault Course and many more! What are you waiting for?
After breakfast, it’s off to school again with your third visit to a school. By now the students would have gained a real insight into British school life and made some lifelong friends! Your group will then head to into Shrewsbury town. Set amidst glorious countryside near to the Welsh Borders, it is one of England's finest medieval market towns. The town centre is packed with timber-framed black & white buildings, steep narrow streets and alleyways. A local guide will take you on a tour to some of the 600 listed buildings including the Castle, now a regimental museum and the world-famous Shrewsbury Abbey, home of the fictional Brother Cadfael. Charles Darwin was born and educated in Shrewsbury and all around you will find reminders of his association with the town. Next to the river you can relax in the beautiful Quarry Park, location for the annual Shrewsbury Flower Show. Your group will then have dinner in town to celebrate and reflect on all the amazing things you have done this week.
There may be just enough time before your transfer to the airport to pick up some last-minute souvenirs or some fish & chips! Your coach will then take you to the airport for the return flight home. The tour officially ends when you get back to home, but with a trip this great we are sure that it will live long in the memory.
